Past Teachers
It is a great joy to be able to work with so many varied and interesting folk from around the world. Here are some that we've had the privilege of working with at Hello English School in the past.

To meet our current teachers, click here.

Moriens sister
When Morien left ECC Junior in Oyama City to start Hello English School his sister took over his job there. She has helped teaching with us at various times particularly between 1997 and 2000. She has visited us here many times and we are looking forward to her next visit.

Kirsty
Kirsty taught with us during the Summer of 2001, the year of 9/11. She arrived just as we were moving into what is now known as the 'Purple House' (it was green then!) to teach for us while we visited the UK. We flew back from England on 9/11 and saw the news as we arrived home. When we last heard from Kirsty she was doing a PhD in food science.

Kristal
Kristal was formerly on the JET programme but worked with us for about 2 years between 2001 and 2003. When we last heard from Kristal she was working as a high school teacher in California.

Ben
Having finished his high school through home schooling very early, Ben came to Japan in 2003 and then again in 2004. When asked 'who was your favourite teacher?', many students without thinking would say 'Ben!' even years after Ben had left. Funnily enough, many of them are now world class Uno players. We have many fond memories of Ben's time with us. Our favorite is having got Ben enrolled on a full time Japanese language course, Ben's plans changed, and we faced unimaginable beaurocratic hurdles getting him unenrolled.

Carrie Faith
Carrie first came to Japan in 2004 (having been introduced to us by Ben) and then worked with us again in the Summer of 2007 to help us out of a jam. It is a great joy to see former teachers settle in Japan. Carrie is now married to Satoshi and together have a daughter called Kirie. They are living in Yamaguchi prefecture. Praise God!

Daniel Benitez
Daniel spent two summers with us while he was studying for his masters degree in divinity at Bob Jones University. He helped us paint the 'Purple House' purple and did all the dangerous bits as Morien is scared of heights. He has now graduated and is looking for a church to pastor. Daniel is married to Jessi and they have a son, Micaiah Judson.

Claire Bence
Claire came to Japan after having taught English to classes of about 400 children (yes, that's right, 400!) in Nepal.

John and Terri
John came to work with us in 2003 and his then fiance Terri followed in 2004. It was such a joy that they got married here in Japan at Nogi church where we used to teach and worship. John and Terri now live and teach in Utsunomiya and are planting a church there!

Hinny is from Hong Kong and worked with us during autumn of 2007. She was loved by all and will always be remembered for introducing fishing (for paper clipped flash cards with magnets) into Hello English School. When we were last in contact she was studying law in Hong Kong.

Tadgh is from Ireland and lives with his wife and two children in Koga City. He has helped on numerous occasions, especially between 2008 and 2009. He is known to many Junior High School students in Koga through his work as an ALT with Interac. He is especially busy in the run up to Christmas and we were priviledged to have his presence at our Christmas party in his capacity as Santa Claus.

Michael Pearce
Michael was our summer teacher in 2008. He graduated with a first in astrophysics, so if you have any questions about the expansion of the universe, he's your man. Michael is also a brilliant break dancer and kept us all entertained, family and students alike.

Peter Learmonth

Simon Clark
To click on, "Make Past Teacher" on Simon's profile on the control page of this website was perhaps the hardest "click of the mouse" I've ever had to make. Simon came to work here in January 2008 after graduating from Bristol University, England in 2007. For almost three and a half years we have enjoyed fun, friendship and fellowship with Simon and of course miss him a lot. We are happy though that Simon is moving on to better things, he will marry Ashley, whom he met in Japan, on July 30th 2011 in New Jersey. We wish them every blessing for their marriage and setting up home together in the U.S.A.

Carel van Renen
Carel is from South Africa and joined us in January 2011 in answer to our prayers for a replacement for Simon. He has had a long standing interest in Japan and already has impressive kanji skills. Carel was previously a graphic artist and if you would like to see some of his stunning artwork and I do mean STUNNING, please, click here.
